The Boston Parks and Recreation Department will hold a public hearing on Thursday, October 2, 2014, to discuss the proposed removal of public shade trees in Boston. The hearing will be held in the 3rd floor Conference Room of the Boston Parks and Recreation Department located at 1010 Massachusetts Avenue, Roxbury.
At 10:45 a.m. a hearing will be held to consider a request for removal of three honey locust trees measuring 4 inches dbh in the vicinity of 320 Congress Street, two maple trees measuring 4 to 7 inches dbh in the vicinity of 342 Congress Street, and four Bradford Pear trees measuring 3 inches dbh in the vicinity of 347 Congress Street.
Public testimony will be taken at the hearing, or may be provided prior to the hearing in writing to the Tree Warden, Boston Parks and Recreation Department, 1010 Massachusetts Avenue, 3rd floor, Boston, MA 02118 or by emailing parks@boston.gov with Tree Hearings in the subject line.
Final decisions regarding the requests will be made within two weeks of the hearings. For further information, please contact the Tree Warden at (617) 635-7275.

Completed Work as of August 2014
Replacement of 12" DI water main on A St. is complete. Installation of 15" and 12" RCP drains on West Second St. from A St. to Haul Rd. is also complete. Also installed is a new 16-inch gate valve at the intersection of West Second Street and A Street.
Ongoing and Upcoming Work
Water main installation continues on West Second St. from A St. to Dorchester Ave. Sewer replacement work is upcoming on West Second St. between Dorchester Ave. and Athens St.

Mayor's Neighborhood Services Taking It To The Streets
Mayor Walsh announced NEW (Neighborhood Engagement Walks), an audit program of the streets of Boston. Starting September 15, 2014 staff from the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services (ONS) will begin walking the 850 miles of city streets across Boston, in an effort to assess every neighborhood from the ground up. They will evaluate infrastructure challenges, identify resident concerns and catalog issues facing the neighborhood. Keep an eye out for Eric Prentis on foot with tablet gathering data. The data will also be used to create a web based story map. NEW is expected to be concluded by the end of the year. A neighborhood report will be presented at a future Fort Point Neighborhood Association (FPNA) neighborhood meeting.
