SUMMARY of RESPONSIBILITIES:Under direction of the City’s Chief Economic Development Officer, lead BRA and City efforts to attract, retain, and grow innovation, entrepreneurism, investment, and development within the South Boston Waterfront/Innovation District. The Manager will be responsible for overseeing outreach and communication with all stakeholders in the District including the entrepreneurial community, property owners, businesses, community groups, and business organizations. Startup companies will be an area of particular focus for the Manager’s efforts. The Manager will cultivate and maintain relationships with participants in the innovation economy and will serve as the sector’s point of contact with the BRA and the City of Boston.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The general duties and responsibilities of the position are included in but not limited to the information listed below. Cultivate and maintain relationships with a diverse array of stakeholders in the Innovation District. Facilitate communication among participants in the innovation economy and between stakeholders and the BRA/City of Boston.
Coordinate and attend events to promote collaboration and networking among and within the innovation sector and to raise the
BRA/City of Boston’s profile within the Innovation District.
Be pro-active about recruiting new businesses and other prospects to the District, including identifying target businesses,
preparing marketing collateral and conducting on-site briefings at Innovation District locations. Coordinate social media communication concerning the BRA and City efforts related to the Innovation District. Conduct outreach to startup companies, including making connections for innovators to key business groups, VC groups, and
other professionals who provide the services most needed by new businesses.
Serve as a “concierge” and the City of Boston’s point of contact for stakeholders to assist with permitting and regulatory matters, district-wide planning and networking initiatives, and other services that the BRA/City of Boston provides.
Perform other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:Work requires a Bachelors Degree. Experience working with startups and entrepreneurs is preferred. Familiarity with city government is a positive. Must have strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and
interpersonal skills including presentation skills. Excellent oral and written skills are needed. Must be knowledgeable about and proficient in major social media outlets. Relationship building skills are required.
