Detailed participant instructions are below.  If rain prevents the yard sale on the June 4th the following Saturday (June 11th) will be the back up date.

  • The yard sale will take place in the large parking lot on the corner of Iron Street and A Street.

Parking tonight: spaces used for movie shoot

Watch where you park this evening.

May 13, 2011
Dear Residents and Business Owners,

My name is Kai Quinlan and I am an Assistant Location Manager for the upcoming feature film “TED,” which films in part at a familiar location in your neighborhood on Wednesday, May 18. I wanted to inform you of our upcoming presence and give you an idea of what to expect while we are guests in your neighborhood.

We will be bringing equipment trucks to the signed parking spaces on Seaport Blvd and Boston Wharf Rd, as well as a handful of spaces on A Street, Congress St and Summer St on Tuesday evening, and filming at 355 Congress Street on Wednesday day. Our filming takes place entirely indoors. There will be no road closures and, apart from our parked trucks and equipment, it will largely be business as usual. Please keep an eye out for the permits, which went up today, Friday May 13. We are aware that many of you who live or work in the neighborhood may count on parking in these spaces. Should you arrive at home or work while our trucks are here and find you are unable to park, we will be glad to provide you with a voucher for a nearby parking lot. Please call me directly or ask for “Locations” on set.

We look forward to filming in your neighborhood and will do what we can to minimize the impact of our presence on the area. We are working in close coordination with local officials and will make every effort to transition in and out of your neighborhood with as little disruption as possible. We greatly appreciate your understanding and welcome during our brief time here.

If you have any questions or special concerns, such as moving or construction plans, please contact me directly at 323-360-2580.

We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding, without which movie making would be impossible.

Sincerely,
Kai Quinlan
Assistant Location Manager

City Turns Down Residential Project at 399 Congress St.

I'm personally very disappointed to hear this. The BRA has frequently argued that the market will not support residential development in order to push more office space in Fort Point.

City wants builder to stick with hotel plan
By Thomas Grillo
Monday, May 9, 2011

The city has given a thumbs down to a Boston developer’s plan to switch a proposed $100 million hotel at 399 Congress St. to luxury apartments.

Boston Redevelopment Authority officials have told Madison Properties that construction of apartments on the Seaport parking lot is “not appropriate.” The city continues to support development of a 502-room hotel across from the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. A source said Madison has been unable to get hotel financing.

But Jon Seward, a member of the Seaport Alliance for Neighborhood Design, said the consensus in Fort Point is for more housing. “Additional residential development is good for the overall mix of the neighborhood,” he said. “It would be another way to attract additional commercial and retail in the district.”

Jack Hart and BCEC Meeting about Gate Shows

When the BCEC was built, South Boston was promised there would be no "Boat Shows". These are shows which charge at the door and attract large crowds that drive into Boston.

In 2007?, the state pass new legislation to allow limited numbers of them. There's a meeting tomorrow night at the Condon school at 6 PM to discuss allowing more of them.

If you can't make it, please consider sending Senator Hart's office your thoughts:

Sen. Jack Hart
Phone: 617.722.1150

Bob O'Shea, community liason for the Convention Center sent this today.

Hello All,

Sorry I didn't put a time for the meeting.

There will be a Community Meeting to discuss Gate Show legislation tomorrow night, 6PM at the Condon School.

As we have discussed at our T5 meetings, Senator Hart will discuss lowering the minimum size of a Gate Show at the BCEC from 250,000 square feet to 160,000 square feet.

MCCA officials will be in attendance to answer any questions.

Please make every effort to attend.
